My Kawais

Introduction:  Some photos from Denis in France.  As you'll see from the photos, Denis has 5 Kawai guitars, so congratulations to Denis for finding them all, and for taking good care of another collection of these classic guitars.

The guitars:  Denis reports that the KS-11-XL has had a couple of new pickups - Seymour Duncan SH1 & SH4 - and the if the guitar sounds half as good as it looks, it's going to be great.  A nice looking Aquarius in the collection too - with Seymour Duncan P-Rails installed (which must make it an incredibly versatile and powerful sounding guitar), along with 3 acoustics - one of them a 12-string.

I know nothing about the Kawai acoustics unfortunately, although I'm getting quite a few emails asking about them.  If there's anyone out there who knows more ... please let me know!

The photos:

Here's the KS-11-XL ... In my opinion, this is one of the most beautful looking guitars made, the carved maple top and twin cutaways ... just beautiful.  These can be heavy beasts though!

Here's the Aquarius with the P-Rails.  For those who've not heard the P-Rails pickups before, they consist of a P-90, a single coil, and (when used together) a standard humbucker.  All in the one HB-sized unit.  The sounds are pretty authentic too ... this has to be a very versatile instrument.

This is an F-200 or F-300 acoustic.  As you can see, the little label with the model details is largely missing and we're guessing the model number based on an old instrument catalogue ... written in Japanese!  It has a closed headstock.

This one is - according to Denis - a G-300.  This is nylon strung with the traditional spanish/classical open headstock.  Denis describes the condition as "like new".

And finally, the 12-string KH-100 from 1970.  For a 40-year old guitar, this one also looks to be in amazing condition - congratulations to Denis!
